Check out our interactive stations designed by MST faculty and students

1

Dust Bunny Challenge!
Asthma Awareness and the Environment

Developers: Monica Miles

This activity showcases the intersections among environmental justice and health disparities. COVID-19 raised awareness of the impact of pre-existing conditions and exposure to the virus. Participants will learn about asthma through a game where they will toss the dust bunnies into the jar and win small prizes if they make it.

2

Multicultural Math Spaces

Developers: Rochy Flint

Multicultural Math Gallery Walkthrough will feature an array of Multicultural MathSpaces and mathematicians from underrepresented demographics. This curation was hand selected by our students in the Program of Mathematics Education at Teachers College. The mathematical spaces featured were selected for their design that can simulate effective education of a multicultural student body. We define MathSpaces as any space, physical or virtual, where mathematics learning, socialization, and/or identity development occurs.

3

K-12 Project-based Unit Design with Robots and Drones

Developers: Ellen Meier and Karen Page

Participants will see STEM come alive as they engage with robots and drones in standards-aligned learning activities. The station will show a process for the design of equitable and inclusive learning opportunities demonstrating how the lived experiences and cultural connections of students, whatever the age, can be linked to core content areas.

We will have a ‘prototype’ drone-construction activity and robots for attendees of all ages to control through tablets and an easy-to-learn coding app. It will be fun and we will assist with experiential learning for all who stop by!

4

Dinosaur Dream Expeditions

Developers: Joey Lee and Elliot Hu-Au

Calling all adventurers! Explore STEAM adventures and dreams for the future in a dinosaur themed experience with immersive learning technologies in AR and VR.

5

Tessellations Around the World

Developers: Irina Lyublinskaya

Learn about symmetry and geometric transformations as you explore various fascinating tessellations around the world. Design and make your own artistic tessellation and take it home with you.

6

Elementary STEAM Explorations

Developers: Jessica Chen

Coming out of the course, MSTC 4040: Science in Childhood Education, elementary preservice science teachers have put together 2 STEAM activities. One activity involves exploring time, making sundials, and using our location and the sun’s location to tell time. The other activity involves examining how birds use the materials in their environments to build nests.

We hope to see you at our STEAM stations!

7

No More Matildas

Developers: Jessica Riccio

Building on the work of Matilda J. Gage who was a women’s rights activist from the US. The campaign named after her, #NoMoreMatildas, seeks to give visibility to those female scientists that history pushed into the background, looking to encourage women to take on science-related studies. Our station will feature the projects of 40+ Middle School girls seeking to illustrate the importance of Women in Science. In collaboration with the Preservice Science Education Program, its teachers in preparation and the Academy of Holy Angels Middle School Women in Science and Engineering Chapter, exhibits will be displayed in rooms Zankel 404 and Zankel 414. We invite you to collaborate with us in this opportunity to engage in culturally responsive discussions around who belongs in the the STEM community and why. Also, please take an opportunity to introduce yourself to our young women scientists so they can learn diverse that mentors exist!

8

Exploring ChatGPT

Developers: Jin Kuwata

This station will provide you with the opportunity to play around with ChatGPT and even challenge it. Yes, you heard that right! Stop by our station to learn and unlearn what we know about ChatGPT.
